Benefits of Breaking Bedrock in Minecraft

  • Accessing the Nether Roof:
    • Farming Opportunities: Reaching the Nether roof allows you to build automatic farms like gold farms or hoglin farms, which can be highly efficient streams of resources.
    • Building Projects: The Nether roof is like a superflat world and can be used as a platform for constructing unique buildings or structures.
  • Efficient Travel:
    • Long-Distance Travel: Breaking bedrock can create shortcuts or passageways through the Nether, allowing for faster and more efficient travel since there are no obstacles in the Nether roof.
    • Overworld Access: Breaking bedrock in the Overworld can provide access to the void, a unique and dangerous area that can be used for exploration or challenges.
  • Modifying End Structures:
    • Aesthetic Changes: This contraption can also be used to break other unbreakable blocks like the frame around a stronghold’s end portal! Modifying the End portal’s appearance can add a unique touch to your End dimension.
  • Overcoming Limitations:
    • Breaking Barriers: Breaking bedrock allows you to overcome natural barriers and access previously unreachable areas.

How It Works

  • After building the contraption, you will have to go to Options – Controls – Key Binds
  • Then change the ‘Right Button’ to something not used on your keyboard, ‘g’ for example.
  • To activate the contraption, you have to go under the trapdoor and flick the lever.
  • Then, with a piston in your hand, you have to point to the obsidian top corner and hold ‘g’ or the key you previously selected, to quickly place the piston.
  • If done correctly, the bedrock block under the piston has been broken!

Additional Tips

  • The nether roof is only accessible in the Minecraft Java edition.
  • Bring in extra TNT in case it doesn’t work the first time or bring materials to build a nether portal so you can safely go back to the overworld.
